Mount Saint Mary College tasked our team with transforming an under-utilized residence hall and former chapel into the Desmond Center for Community Engagement and Wellness Center on its Newburgh campus. This state-of-the-art facility provides medical and educational services to underserved individuals and families, including the uninsured.

The project involved both renovation and new construction. The chapel was converted into a multi-purpose room with a 200-square-foot addition. We also built an 800-square-foot, two-story lobby and reception area, featuring a steel structure, glass curtainwall system, custom steel stair system, and reception desk. The 14,000-square-foot residence hall was renovated to create exam rooms, offices, and updated HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and finishes.

Completed in April 2023, just 14 months after breaking ground, the Desmond Center serves over 4,000 residents annually. It houses the college’s Desmond program for adult enrichment and offers workshops, counseling, fitness checks, immunizations, and professional development, supporting the long-term health and wellness of the community
